Q: What currency does Ecuador use?

A: Since 2000, Ecuador’s national currency is the American Dollar.

Q: What is the climate?

A: The property is at 1400m (roughly 4600ft). We receive an average of 2500mm (98 in.) of rain per year. The rainy season goes from January to May and the dry season runs from June to December. with average temperatures ranging from 16-26 C (60-78 F). Mornings during the rainy season tend to be sunny and warm with rain occurring regularly each afternoon. Because we are located in the tropics, the dry season still receives plenty of rain in comparison to other parts of the world.

Q: Is it safe in Mindo, Ecuador?

A: Ecuador is a warm and friendly country with a very welcoming attitude toward foreigners. The quality of the roadways and the ease with which people can travel by car or bus from one place to another make the country very easy to navigate. There are recognized “red zones” in larger urban centers where safety and security can be problematic (deserves special attention). However, Mindo is a safe and friendly place to live, work, and visit. 

Q: How big is the town of Mindo?

A: Mindo is a small town with a population of approximately 3000 people. Theft and crime rates are quite low, although visitors are encouraged to use common sense as they would traveling to any unfamiliar place. We have an active police presence and walking is considered quite safe. Traveling by bus or taxi to and from Mindo also easy and safe. Business development is growing in a similar rate to the pace of tourism and population growth. 

Q: How remote is the property?

A: The town of Mindo is 80 km (50 miles) from the center of Quito. It is approximately 110 km (68 miles) from the airport in Quito. The property is 1.2 km (3/4 mile) from the town of Mindo. The road follows the Mindo River and the property is located 600 meters (1/3 mile) from the Rio Mindo bridge. 

Q: Is it necessary to be a resident to purchase property in Ecuador?

A: Purchasing property as a foreigner can be the path to residency through an investment Visa which is straightforward and relatively easy to obtain. 

Q: What is the healthcare system like in Ecuador?

A: Private healthcare is great. It is quite affordable by U.S. standards and the quality and availability of care in larger cities such as Quito are high. There is a local clinic in Mindo as well as larger health clinics within a 30-minute drive. The closest full-service hospital is in Quito. 

Q: How does the cost of living in Ecuador compare to other countries?

A: The U.S. dollar makes the economy in Ecuador quite stable. For this reason, it can be more expensive when compared to other South and Central American countries of similar size. When compared to large countries such as the U.S. and Canada, the cost of living in Ecuador is quite affordable.

Q: What is the process for taking over the business currently operating on the property?
